It is used as a dietary supplement and as off-label use in the prevention of migraine headaches.
It is included in the WHO's list of essential medicines.
Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) Dose in Adults
Use as a Dietary supplement:

Use as a Dietary supplement:
- Infants, Children, and Adolescents:
- It is usually prescribed as a multivitamin preparation in pediatric patients.
- The use of riboflavin alone is very rare.
- When used as a single-ingredient, product labeling must be consulted.
Riboflavin dose in the prevention of Migraine headache:
- Children older than 8 years and Adolescents:
- 200 - 400 mg orally once a day.
Pregnancy Risk category A
- It is a water-soluble Vitamin and can cross the placental Barrier.
- During pregnancy, requirements increase.
Use during breastfeeding:
- It can be found in breast milk.
- Supplements and maternal deficiencies can influence the concentration of riboflavin.
- Nursing women have a higher need than those who are not nurses.
Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) Dose in Renal Disease:
- Patients with renal dysfunction do not require dose adjustment.
Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) Dose in Liver Disease:
- Patients with hepatic dysfunction do not require dose adjustment.
Side Effects of Riboflavin (Vitamin B) include:

There is no contraindication to the use of Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), however, a single vitamin deficiency is rare and the patient must be evaluated for other deficiency states.
