Sertaconazole is an antifungal medicine that is used topically over the affected areas of the skin for the treatment of superficial fungal infections.

Uses:

  • Tinea pedis:

    • Topical treatment of interdigital tinea pedis in immunocompetent patients 12 years of age and older, caused by Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and Epidermophyton floccosum.
  • Off Label Use of Sertaconazole in Adults:

    • Cutaneous candidiasis;
    • Seborrheic dermatitis;
    • Tinea versicolor

Sertaconazole Dose in the treatment of Tinea pedis:

  • Apply topically between toes and to surrounding healthy skin two times a day for 4 weeks

Sertaconazole Dose in the treatment of Cutaneous candidiasis (off-label):

  • Topical: Apply to the affected area(s) two times a day for four weeks.

Dose in the treatment of Seborrheic dermatitis (off-label):

  • Topical: Apply to the affected area(s) two times a day for 4 weeks.

    • Apply topically twice a day for 2 weeks.

How to administer Sertaconazole?

It is applied over the affected area of the skin two times a day. The affected area should be cleaned and dried before applying the medicine.

Mechanism of action of Sertaconazole:

It blocks the CYP450-dependent synthesis ergosterol, resulting in the death of the fungi by altering the cell wall permeability.

Absorption:

  • After topical application, absorption is minimal. The serum concentration of the drug is below the limit for quantitation (2.5ng/mL).
