Sulfur and salicylic acid (Pernox) cause keratolysis and are used in the treatment of patients with psoriasis and dandruff (seborrheic dermatitis).

- It is indicated for the symptomatic control of dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, and psoriasis.

Topical application:
- Wet the scalp or the affected skin and massage enough of the shampoo to form a lather. Massage the area for 3 to 5 minutes, rinse thoroughly then repeat the application.

Warnings and precautions

Hypersensitivity reactions
- Salicylic acid is used in the formulation. It may also contain benzoyl peroxide.
- These drugs can cause severe skin irritations and sometimes even life-threatening allergic reactions.
- It is unclear which ingredient of the formulation causes these severe reactions.
- The drug may cause skin hypersensitivity reactions that can be seen within minutes or days.
- These reactions can manifest as skin redness, itching, burning, dryness and swelling.
- Patients should immediately stop taking the medication and seek medical attention if symptoms occur.
- Suppose the patient experiences severe symptoms such as tightness in the throat, breathing difficulties, dizziness, facial swelling or swelling around the eyes, lips or tongue. In that case, it is important to seek emergency medical attention immediately.
- To ensure that allergic reactions do not occur, it is recommended that you apply OTC products to a small area of your body for at least three days.
