Topical Urea dissolves the hyperkeratotic intracellular matrix resulting in the softening of the hard skin. It promotes the healing and debridement of hyperkeratotic skin surface lesions, which is how it is used to treat hyperkeratotic skin lesions. It is especially helpful for skin diseases when eschar development, necrotic tissue, fibrinous or purulent waste, or local infection prevent healing. Additionally, it is applied to various hyperkeratotic skin diseases, including:
- Corns and calluses
- Damaged, ingrown, and devitalized nails.
- Dermatitis
- Psoriasis
- Dry and rough skin
- Skin cracks and fissures
- Xerosis
- keratosis
- Ichthyosis
- Eczema
- keratoderma
Topical Urea Dose in Adults
Topical Urea Dose in the treatment of Hyperkeratotic conditions:
- Apply over the hyperkeratotic area 1-3 times a day.
Topical Urea Dose in Children
Refer to the adult dose. The safety and efficacy of urea in children have not been established.
Pregnancy Risk Factor B/C
- It has not yet been tested in pregnant women.
- However, there have been no clinically significant adverse side effects from animal reproduction studies.
Urea use during breastfeeding:
- Lactating mothers should not use it as the excretion into breast milk is unknown.
Topical Urea Dose in Renal Disease:
Adjustment in the dose for topica application of urea is not required in patients with renal disease.
Topical Urea Dose in Liver Disease:
Adjustment in the dose for topical application of urea is not required in patients with liver disease.

Contraindication to Topical Urea Include:
Urine or any other component of the formulation can cause severe allergic reactions. Avoid contact with infected, irritated or open skin wounds.
Warnings and precautions
- Reactions to skin:
- Some brands may cause photosensitivity by topical application.
- It is possible to protect your skin and avoid sun exposure for at most one week after starting the treatment.
Monitor:
Monitor the response to therapy.
How to apply topical Urea?
- It is massaged until fully absorbed after being applied to the afflicted region.
- The affected area may be covered with an adhesive bandage or gauze piece or a plastic fill.
- Prior to the application, the lotion, foam, and suspension are shaken well.
